The Indian Premier League (IPL) is an annual franchise-based Twenty20 competition organised by the Indian Cricket Board.

First time held in year 2008, IPL features maximum of the world's best cricketers playing for ten city-based franchises, owned by a host of businessmen and celebrity consortiums.

The tournament's initial success stemmed from India's winning the inaugural ICC World Twenty20 but the IPL has itself spawned several competitions, current and planned, including the Champions League.

Fifth Sesson of IPL 2012 starts from 4th april 2012 and finals will be played on 27th may 2012. Total nine teams are taking part in IPL 2012 season 5 and will play total 76 matches. Opening match of DLF IPL 2012 season 5 will be played between Chennai Super Kings and Mumbai Indians.

Teams for IPL 2012 :Deccan Chargers (DC), Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), Mumbai Indians (MI), Rajasthan Royals (RR), Kings XI Punjab (KXIP), Delhi Daredevils (DD), Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and Royal Challangers Bangalore (RCB), Pune Warriors.
